Laser Hair Removal
Unwanted hair can be a thing of the past. Laser hair removal is both safe and effective.
How does laser hair removal work? Laser hair removal targets the melanin pigment in the hair shaft. Therefore laser treatments work best on darker hair because there is more pigment. The laser light is absorbed by the unwanted hair, destroying the follicle. Hair grows in cycles, alternating between a “resting” and “growth” stage. For that reason, 3 -4 treatments booked 4 – 6 weeks apart are necessary to treat each hair follicle. Following these treatments, some hair growth may persist but should be much finer and less in amount. To maintain a completely hair-free appearance occasional repeat laser treatments may be necessary.
How can laser hair removal help me? Unwanted hair growth can be a source of embarrassment for many people. Women often inquire about treatments for the chin, upper lip, bikini line, arms, underarms and legs. Men often inquire about hair removal to the back, chest, stomach, face and neck. Laser hair removal is much faster and less painful than electrolysis.
- The ACTIVE or ANAGEN growth phase, comprises approximately 85 % of our body hair at any given moment in time and can last up to several years. During this anagen phase, the hair shaft and follicle has an abundance of melanin or pigment and as such, is most sensitive to the laser light.
- The REGRESSIVE or CATAGEN phase is the period during which the hair
- Stops actively growing but is not shed. This phase often lasts several weeks comprising about 3 - 4% of our total body hair at any given time.
- The RESTING or TELOGEN phase lasts 5 - 6 weeks, at the end of which the hair falls out and a new hair begins to form. Approximately 10-13% of our body hair is in this phase at any one time.
